Privacy Policy for Tawak

Tawak is designed with privacy as a core priority. This Privacy Policy explains how the app handles your information when you use it.

1. Core Principle

Tawak's core reading, prayer time, and habit-tracking features work entirely on your device — your Quran reading progress, prayer preferences, and personal settings never leave your phone. Tawak does not use accounts and does not collect any personally identifiable information such as your name, email, or phone number.

To help us understand how people use Tawak and improve the app, we use a privacy-conscious analytics service (PostHog) to collect anonymous, aggregated usage data. This is limited to feature usage patterns and basic device information — never your reading content, personal identity, or precise location. See Section 4 for full detail.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

Tawak does not collect:

• Personal identification information (such as name, email, phone number)
• Precise or raw location coordinates
• Any form of online account data
• The actual content of your Quran reading, search queries, or Duas usage (only anonymous counts/categories, e.g. "a chapter was played," never what you searched for or read)
• Crash logs linked to your identity

We do not run servers that store your personal reading data or preferences.

3. Information Stored on Your Device

Tawak may store limited information locally on your device only to enable core functionality, such as:

• Prayer times preferences
• Quran reading progress
• Streaks or habit tracking
• App settings

This information:

• Never leaves your device
• Is not accessible to us
• Can be removed at any time by deleting the app or clearing app storage

4. Anonymous Usage Analytics

To improve Tawak, we use PostHog, a third-party analytics service, to collect anonymous usage information such as:

This also applies when you visit our website (tawak.app) — we use the same anonymous analytics approach there, and do not use tracking cookies.

• Which features and screens are used (e.g. Quran reader, settings, bookmarks)
• General app interactions (e.g. button presses, toggles changed)
• Basic device and app information (device model, manufacturer, operating system and version, app version, screen size, general language/region settings, and device timezone) — never your precise location
• Whether location or notification permissions were granted, without recording your actual location or notification content

We do not use PostHog's automatic screen-recording or touch-recording features. You are never assigned a persistent identity — only an anonymous, randomly generated device identifier.

This data is not linked to your name, email, or any personal identity, and is used solely to understand feature usage and improve the app. It is processed by PostHog's US-based cloud infrastructure. We do not use this data for advertising, and we do not sell or share it with advertisers.

5. Data Sharing

Tawak does not share personal data with third parties. Anonymous usage data described in Section 4 is processed by our analytics provider, PostHog, solely to help us understand app usage — not for their own independent use, resale, or advertising purposes.

6. Law Enforcement Requests

Because Tawak does not collect personally identifiable data, there is minimal personal data available for disclosure. Anonymous usage data held by our analytics provider is not linked to your identity.

7. Children's Privacy

Tawak does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Anonymous usage analytics described in Section 4 do not identify individual users.

8. Third Party Services

Tawak uses PostHog for anonymous usage analytics, as described in Section 4. We do not use advertising networks, ad tracking, or targeted advertising of any kind. If additional third-party services are introduced in the future, this policy will be updated.

9. Security

Since all personal reading data remains on your device, its security depends on your device's built-in security features. We do not have access to your personal reading data at any point.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy if the app changes in the future. Any updates will be reflected by changing the "Last updated" date above.
